All distances have approximately a 52-hour cut-off time; so you’ll have the entire weekend to complete any distance you sign up for. We need to check out of the campground by 10 a.m. on Monday morning, so everyone should be finished up by then.
The registration fee includes a campsite and access to amenities such as bathrooms and showers for the weekend, a finisher’s medal for all distances, a handmade finisher’s mug for those running a half marathon or longer, and a belt buckle for those running 100-miles or more. For all participants, breakfast on the first day, and traditional aid station food for the entire race will be included. There is an additional option to upgrade to meals for the entire race as well, which is included for participants registered for a 50k or longer race.

The Course
The race takes place at approximately 6,500 feet of elevation. Historically, the temperatures during the time of year the race takes place range from around 32 degrees at night to 60 degrees during the day, so please pack accordingly.
This course features a 1-mile, 2-mile and 3-mile loops that both start and end at the aid station, which will be located at a cabin. The loops may be run in either direction, aka washing machine style, but you must complete each loop in the direction you started. You are free to do any mix of both loops to reach the distance you’ve signed up for. For those of you doing a distance with an uneven mileage (such as a marathon), we will have marked out the additional distance in an out-and-back area near the finish line.

The 1-mile loop consists of a well-maintained gravel trail for the majority, a small section of a regular well-maintained trail, and a section of road.

The 3-mile loops consist of mostly single-track trail with about 100 feet of elevation gain per mile. The 2-mile loop has single-track and trails/paths through the campground, cabins, and glamping tent areas. The 2-mile loop can be combined with the 3-mile loop to create a 5-mile loop as well.

This will not be a certified course, but the exact distance will be accurate and measured from the ground for both loops.
Counting Mileage
Because there are two different loops, and we let you mix them as you’d like, we can’t use chip timing equipment to count your laps.
For participants doing distances of 50K or less, we’ll be using the rubber band method. There will be different colored rubber bands for each loop, which you can wear on your arm, attach to a carabiner, wrap around your water bottle, or anything else that works for you. You also have the option of marking your bib with a Sharpie for each loop. Out-and-back distances of 0.1 and 0.2 miles will be marked with signs so racers can complete the final stretch for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances. Additionally, a one-mile out-and-back distance will be marked on the trail for any racers doing a 50K who want to only use the trail.
For participants doing distances of 50 miles or more, we’ll be using a counting system. At the end of each loop, there will be different colored clothespins. After you finish a loop, you will attach a clothespin of the corresponding color to a string labeled with your name. As the day progresses, we’ll periodically count your clothespins and convert them into mileage. We’ll then replace them with higher-value clothespins. This way, we can keep using the lower-value clothespins throughout the race.
We will be videotaping the counting and some sections of both loops in case there are any issues. If any disputes arrive we will review the tapes. Please don’t make us do that; it’s tedious for us. If you want to cheat a course to get a medal, and you choose our race because there aren’t a million timing mats to catch you doing it, it says more about you than it does about our race.

Aid Station
The only aid station will be located at a large cabin on the course that you will pass through each loop. The aid station will have a variety of cooked food, snacks, drinks, ice, and first aid items. If you want something we have that isn’t prepared yet we’re more than happy to make it for you!

Fluids
The following drinks will be available at the aid station: water, Gatorade, ginger ale, various soda, coffee, and hot chocolate. We’ll also have plenty of ice!
Food
The following food and more will be available at the aid station for all participants: oatmeal, bagels, bananas, hard boiled eggs, muffins, bacon, potatoes, a variety of candy bars and candy, oranges, apples, grapes, various cookies, peanut butter and honey/jelly, cold cut sandwiches, chips in a variety of flavors, pretzels, dried fruits, tortillas filled with a variety of items (hummus, beans, etc.), brownies, energy gels. We will also be serving meals throughout the race for participants who are running a 50k or longer, as well as those who chose to upgrade their meal options, which include pasta, hamburgers, pizza, quesadillas, and more. This isn’t an exhaustive list, but it provides an overview of what you can expect. Crews, pacers, and spectators may purchase wristbands to access the aid station’s food throughout the entire race and pre-/post-race food.

Medical Information
The aid station will have a variety of medical aid products, including, but not limited to, Tums, Imodium-AD, Vaseline, salt tablets, band aids, medical tape, feminine products, baby wipes, and sunscreen. If you want any painkillers, please bring your own, because we are prohibited from giving them to you.
There will be no medical checks before, during, or after the race. We will have crew members who are trained in CPR and basic first aid. You are responsible for knowing your own physical limitations and listening to them. If the race director or other crew members feel you are a danger to yourself or others, you will be withdrawn from the race.
We have plenty of strategies to help you succeed at your chosen distance. If the race presents an unexpected challenge, take a moment to address the issue. Taking short naps, icing, and more, can help you finish strong. You have plenty of time, so there’s no reason to ignore your needs.

Spectators, Crews, and Pacers
As the race is held at a private location, spectators, crew, and pacers are required to either purchase access to a campsite during the registration portion of the race or purchase lodging through the Zion Ponderosa Lodge Resort in order to have access to bathrooms and other on-site amenities.
Pacers are welcome to join in after the 30-mile mark of any ultra-distance race. Pacers are required to sign up for a bib and sign a waiver, which can be purchased either during registration or at packet pick-up. This will also give them access to food and drink at the aid station for the entirety of the event.
Lodging
Every distance includes 3 nights of a camping site for every participant. If you choose to go with this option, you should bring your own tent, sleeping bag, and anything else you may want with you. Spectators, crew, and pacers are required to purchase lodging either through the race or through the Zion Ponderosa Lodge Resort to have access to bathrooms and other on-site amenities such as showers, tennis courts, pickleball, volleyball, a pool, a hot tub, and more.

Options to upgrade to glamping tents or cabins at the Zion Ponderosa Lodge Resort are available through their website. After registering for the race, a code with a 30% discount code will be sent to you if you’re interested in this option.

Donations
We are dedicating this race to Lois Krotz and Tom McCabe Jr who showed their friends and family the true meaning of adventure, community, and living in the moment. Both of these amazing people left this world too soon but left a lasting impact on those they encountered. Part of the race proceeds will be donated in honor of them to Arctic Rescue and a trail maintenance volunteer group located in Salt Lake County.

Frequently Asked Questions
May I push my child in a stroller?
Yes, but the 4-mile loop has rocks, single track, and bumps, so the shorter 1-mile loop is the best option for this. Additionally, the 1-mile loop has sections of gravel and dirt, so a stroller with more heavy-duty wheels is recommended.
What will the weather be like?
This is the Utah desert, so expect it to most likely be dry. However, there’s occasional rain/snow this time of year so pack accordingly. Temperatures typically hang out around 32 degrees at night and reach up to 60 degrees during the day. Make sure to bring layers and options to stay warm or cool off if needed. The polar in the name of this race definitely come from the chilly nights and small chance of snow we have in November.
Can I use trekking poles?
Yes, we are all about people doing what works for them.
Do I really have 52 hours?
Yes, this is a choose-your-own-adventure and pace-type race. If you want to dash out fast and hit a personal best, go for it. You can even crawl or dance while you complete your mileage if you want.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, dogs are allowed at the Zion Ponderosa Lodge Resort, however they are not allowed inside of cabins. If you choose to bring your dog, please make sure they are well-behaved. If they are causing issues out on the trails with other runners, they will be kicked out.
